Interior Designer Lars Bolander

I'm delighted to introduce you to Lars Bolander, pioneer of Swedish design, and my new interior designer crush. From a Swedish cottage on an Aspen mountain to an entire Grecian village, the Lars Bolander style is unique: a daring mixture of ideas and geographic blends that exude both sophistication and a pleasing restfulness to the eye.
The first 16 photographs are some of the rooms he decorated for his clients. The rest belong to his homes.
Hope you have lots of time to look at the photographs as I went head over heels and included 48 of them!

The following photographs are all from Bolander's own homes in Sweden, New York, and Palm Beach. They are excellent showcases for the spirit of his style. His range of furnishings are inspired by his trade mark of global influences: antiques, rustic bamboos of Asia and subtle colours of middle and Northern Europe.

Designer's Delight in Denmark

I have featured Katrine Martensen-Larssen's styled homes before, so if you missed them just go here for the house in Denmark and here for the house in Sweden. Katrine is a stylist and writer. Based in London, she runs her own firm called KML Design. She not only decorates homes but provides written material for magazines and commercial clients.

The house we are visiting today is called Designer's Delight. It belongs to Danish clothing and jewellery designer Marlene Juhl Jørgensen. It is located in a village named Tisvilde, one of a string of old fishing villages which make up one of the most popular summer retreat areas in Denmark on the northern coast of Sealand.

I don't speak Danish but I had google translate the word Solkrogen on the sign and it said "sun trap". Nice word for a sunny breakfast spot outside.

Hope you enjoyed this tour. Have a splendid Wednesday!

Apartment in Florida

Today we are visiting a colourful apartment in Palm beach, Florida. The architectural design is by Peter Napolitano and Thomas Britt was in charge of the interiors.

Contemporary paintings—by Jim Dine, left, and Sigmar Polke—hang in the main gallery.

Boldly striped in two shades of blue, with a vein of orange snaking along in between, the antique dhurrie in the living room was cut down from a formidable palace rug. The painting is by Léger.

“I didn’t think the furniture should be super-formal,” says Britt, who “mixed it up” with Chinese, 18th-century Italian and 1940s French pieces. The 1999 painting is by Cecily Brown. Neoclassical chairs.

The dining area has an 18th-century Italian chandelier, a Chinese altar table and a pair of blue-and-white ginger jars. Sunset Sea, 1958, is by Milton Avery.

The designer added wainscoting, molding and recessed bookshelves in the study. The drawing, left, is a 1964 Picasso. Studio 54, 1976, is by Andy Warhol.

Pale blues in the master bedroom. The painting is by Larry Poons.

The designer created a casual dining area on a terrace overlooking the Atlantic.

French and Belgian Styles

A large country house serves as a showcase for the beautiful items on sale at Bruxelles Antiques, Andree Leblanc's shop. Antiques, reclaimed furniture and flea market finds in this in a lovely mixture of French and Belgian styles. Let's take a look.
