Cottage on Nantucket

Today we are visiting a typical shingle style cottage on Nantucket. Full of light and colours, and details in every room which give it an overall nautical feeling.

White painted Adirondack chairs in the wide front porch which was added to the house.

A schooner painting by William P. Stubbs gets prominent placement in the entry hall.

A whale carving that once hung on the outside of a ’Sconset house dominates the living room with its whitewashed walls. Antique chestnut floors run throughout the house.

The window seat wraps the perimeter of the living room.

Built-in wooden benches line the patio and serve as additional seating for entertaining.

Windsor style chairs surround a reproduction lace-maker’s table in the dining room.

The table has an end drawer for storing linens.

The kitchen’s tiled countertop and green faux-painted cabinets add to the home’s cottage look.

The master bedroom’s open bookshelves hold an array of Nantucket baskets, some of which the homeowner made.

Olive green subway tiles, twin sinks, mirrors and light fixtures in the master bathroom.

The wife's office area is part of the bedroom suite.
